Out for the week!

I'm shocked... I've almost gone an entire week without a blog entry!  That's so unlike me!  It's not because there's been a lack of stories to tell, but rather because I was planning to continue the wedding blogs, one after the other, in succession... but my sweet photographer Bri hurt her neck and has been out of commission for a week, so we'll  have to wait a bit more for the edited photos of the big day and that blog to be posted!!  I'm working on editing the honeymoon pics, so once the wedding day post goes up, the honeymoon will be shortly after, and then the regular day to day stories will commence! :)

Married life has been such a blast!  We spent the first week back in Korea, completely jetlagged and were waking up at 3am every morning!  While that would be unnerving to some, it was actually really fun for us!  Aaron made breakfast almost every morning and we caught up with our favorite TV shows while getting a little playtime in with Maverick here and there!  By the time we finally left for work it seemed like we'd already been up 1/2 the day!

Summer camp went really well! We only had to teach 2 weeks instead of the contracted 3, because we were given an extra week of paid vacation for our wedding (an AWESOME Korean perk!)  I only had 4 students the first week and 7 the next!  Working at a smaller school definitely has it's perks.  We did tons of phonics, played jenga, uno, hangman, did scavenger hunts, made colored sand jars (one of my favorite childhood art projects), watched a movie, talked a lot, made ice cream and tuna sandwiches, and played more tag than I ever thought was possible!  My advanced kids gave me the best compliment when they whined when summer camp was over! :)  They're already looking forward to coming to Winter Camp! 

Aaron and I have been going to the beach a lot the last two weeks!  The weather has been fantastic - blue skies, cool breezes and warm sand in our toes has made for some very relaxing beach adventures... Yesterday we rode the scooter and met up with Crystal, Ann, Cheryl, and Jinho at Gwangali Beach.  

We've decided that this will DEFINITELY be our last year here in Korea.  So, in March 2013, we will bid farewell to our Asian home and head to SE Asia for a month long vacation.  Then, we'll fly to CA, visit with my parents, buy a car, and do a road trip across the US, stopping to see national parks, family,  and anything else that tickles our fancy... all while camping along the way!  Oh yes!  We are really looking forward to the adventure!  Our last stop will be Charleston, SC, where we'll be settling in and calling home!  Ahhh, my dream of living on the east coast will come true!  Check that off the bucket list!

We have a photo shoot scheduled with a darling couple from about 45 minutes away tonight!  We're meeting at a coastal park called Amnam and are looking forward to getting to know them while getting to have another hand at portrait/couple photography! :)

Summer Camp

English summer camp is back in full affect these days!  Last week I taught with Okk, and we only have 4 kids, so we split up the day and she taught the first 2 classes and I taught the last two!  SCORE on the extra free time!  This week I'm on my own though with the kiddos... Luckily I only have 7 (instead of 25 like Aaron!)  YAY!  

Today, I had an entire class period dedicated to playing English UNO.   I say "English Uno" because I make them say the color and number of the card that they're laying down so I can justify it as an English speaking exercise! :)  Sometimes I play with them and other times I don't... Today I jumped in a game and ended up with this disaster of a hand!   (iphone pic)

It's safe to say one of my students won this round! 

Next week, real classes start up again... I'm looking forward to finishing up my last semester in Korea and heading back to the states.

Gran's garden party!

Aaron is sssoooo lucky to still have his 2 grandmother's around!  ...And even luckier that they adore him and happen to live within a mile of each other!  His mom's mom, who he lovingly calls "Gran" wanted to throw us a "Garden Party / pre-wedding party / a party where my family could meet hisa nd asked if that would be alright!  I was ecstatic, of course, and we both agreed!  

While we were busy planning for the wedding here in Korea, Gran, Aaron's mom, Aaron's aunts and even uncle's spent hours and hours and hours painting the house, buying some new furniture, and working in the sun, pruning and planting flowers galore in Gran's front garden, for the celebration!  We couldn't let them do all the work alone though, so on Tuesday, a couple days before the party, Aaron, his mom and I headed over to Gran's to help out!

I'd like to say that I was a big help, but with not a lot of time to spare before the wedding, I plopped down and did some last minute wood staining for the wedding signs...

... while Aaron jumped in and got his hands dirty with the garden tools!  I love this photo of them being silly.  They have such a sweet bond as mom and son. :)

Cash was there too, to look cute and keep everyone company!  Man, I love this guy!

While I think Cash is warming up to me, he definitely knows who his dad is! Look at this concentration.

*** BTW: I forced myself to edit these photos with Photoshop instead of my VERY SIMPLE windows photo gallery editing program that I've been using for years.  Hey, if I wanna help Aaron out one day with the business, I have to learn how to use the big boy programs, right?!

The party went off without a hitch!  It was the first time my family and Aaron's mom's side AND dad's side ever met!  I think it went better than I could have imagined, thanks to all the hard work from Gran, Pegg, Terri, Joe, Carol, Joe, and anyone else who made it happen behind the scenes!

Everyone was asked to wear a name tag with a description of how they were related to Aaron or I.

The food was ALL homemade and perfectly southern!

Speaking of bringing families together... Having my father in law under one arm and my dad under the other makes me one happy girl!  I love these guys!

Aaron's aunt Terri presented me with the most special gift that she had put together... As she handed it to me she said, "Jill, The Osteen and Rozzell family present you the gift of our Aaron."  It was an album all about Aaron, with pictures of him through the years, actual pictures that he had drawn and colored for family members as a child, funny notes he had written when he was little, and personal letters from each family member telling a memory they remember of Aaron through the years!  It is soooo awesome!

Courthouse Wedding...

Back in May, I was feeling really on top of wedding planning... I mean, REALLY on top of it!  ... Except for one thing... We didn't have a wedding officiant, which happens to kind of be a BIG DEAL, right?!  So, Aaron and I scowered the internet for pastors in the area and even "wedding officiants" by trade.  No one seemed right, so I e-mailed my mom in a bit of a panic, and asked her to pray about it for me.  Within 24 hours, I got an e-mail response from her telling me that she had prayed with my dad about it, and then talked with my uncle Jeff that night and he had told her that he would be honored to officiate our wedding!  I think I may have actually cried when I read that e-mail... My uncle Jeff is one of the most wonderful men I know, and I respect his marriage to my aunt Barb immensely!  They also happen to read this blog, religiously, so I knew he would be able to make the ceremony personal and comfortable... Only hurdle was, he wasn't ordained in the state of North Carolina.

Which leads me to my courthouse wedding!  Aaron and I decided that if Jeff would officiate the REAL WEDDING, we would have to do the legal ceremony a couple days before, at the Asheville courthouse.  So, on Wednesday, July 25th, we got out of bed early, but some nice clothes on, I made myself a little bouquet out of wild flowers, jumped in the car, in the pouring rain I might add, and headed for the courthouse.  First stop was the register of deeds where we had to apply for our marriage license.  The people working there were so sweet and super excited for Aaron and I.  The lady there even let me borrow her umbrella for our walk to the courthouse! :)

Aaron's mom and dad met us there and up to the 9th floor we went, where we waited patiently for the clock to strike 8:30 and the judge to come in for work!  Luckily, it was a beautiful view to enjoy while we waited...

Still waiting... I actually remember this moment clearly, sitting with Pegg.  We were chatting and in between words, I was thinking to myself, Okay, now what's gonna happen next?  When the judge comes in, will he start immediately?  Where will he ask us to stand?  Will he sit in his judges chair? Will we recite vows?  Will we use our rings?  I'm not sure either Aaron OR I were really ready when he finally came in.

 ... Because he literally came in, introduced himself, asked if we had rings (which we did) and asked us to stand here (pointing) and said, "Are you ready?"  hahaha!  I think we both kinda laughed and said, "Yep!"  ... and within seconds, we were in the middle of our courthouse wedding ceremony!  And for the record; Yes, we recited vows, Yes we exchanged rings, and Yes, I cried through 

the whole thing!

"By the state of North Carolina, I now pronounce you husband and wife"

What courthouse wedding is complete without a fist pump (and a double chinned bride!  LOL)?!   

And here it is folks, our official 1st kiss as "legal" husband and wife!  Smooshed cheeks and all... :)

... and I'm of course thankful for this great guy, who "legally" married us in a record 2 minutes! :) 

When we walked out of the courthouse, there was an elderly couple sitting on a bench outside.  They clapped for us and congratulated us on our marriage, and the wife told us that we had picked a GREAT day to get married, because it was THEIR wedding anniversary too!  They had been married for 54 years.

... and I'm sure we'll beat them!  Even if we won't be celebrating this day as our wedding anniversary. 

We basked in our "legal marriage" for the next hour or so and then Aaron slipped his ring off and we went back to being fiance's. In our opinions, the legal part of a wedding is important no doubt, (gotta love the perks of filing taxes jointly!) but it's the commitment we made in front of God and our friends on our REAL WEDDING DAY (July 28th) that makes us husband and wife... so while this courthouse wedding was important to our country, July 28th, was important to US!  We'll cherish that day forever.  *** The REAL WEDDING blog is coming...
