Thanks!

Thanks to Aaron Osteen, for letting me steal one of his amazing photographs for the top of my blog! He took this during one of the performance dances at his school's Field Day!

Awkward and Hilarious!

I was eating lunch with my Vice Principal last week and I heard a cat crying really loud outside the door. I said, "Oh, that cat sounds like it is really mad!" He said, "No, it is making love. Cats are very loud like humans!"

Even the Animals Speak Korean!

In addition to the fact that animals apparently get married in Korea, they also make different noises! This has been a really funny learning experience for me since I've been teaching my kindergardners about animals. I will ask them, "What's this animal, and what does it say?" They say the cutest darn things... I have to share.

In Korea...

dogs say "mong mong"

chickens say "kohkeeyo kohkeeyo"

birds say "jeck jeck"

and tigers say "oh hoong"

I asked some of my 6th graders about other sounds today and found this out too:

In Korea...

they say, a laugh sounds like "key, key, key"...
a car horn sounds like "bahng bahng"...
a police siren sounds like "beeyong beeyong"...
a person knocking on a door sounds like "dok dok" ...
and when people clap, they say it sounds like "jak jak"

Mr Pizza!

Last night my friend Aaron come over to keep me company, since I haven't been able to move around much and have been stuck in the apartment.  We both decided we wanted to get some pizza, and thought it would be fun to have it delivered.  Mind you, this was my first attempt at having anything delivered to my apt.  This was such a hilarious experience.

The people from Mr Pizza had no idea what I was saying when I was trying to order it over the phone.  I was passed to 3 different people; none of which spoke better english than the previous one...  and the delivery kid called me 3 times!!  I tried to speak as much Korean as I could and he spoke as much English as he could until he finally found my place!  We both smiled with relief when I opened my door.  It was as if we both realized that we had just accomplished a feat of great proportions!  :)

The pizza wasn't even close to what I tried to order, but I figured that would be the case!  If they can't speak English, and I can't speak Korean, I kinda knew I was gonna get something random!  We were just happy that it came and was delicious!

Interesting Tradition...

Yes, this is a real pig head!

One of my friend's school had a ceremony where they put money and wishes into the pig's mouth, ears and nose... Then they bowed in front of it for good luck!

*** thanks to Meg Rushbrook for letting me steel her pictures of this event!

Pretty Puppy!

You thought I was kidding when I said that people dye their dogs hair here, didn't you?!  Well, here's the proof!  It's true...
