Dinner with the Girls!

Last night I met Jess, Sowon and her sister Soyon in Nampodong for dinner! It's always nice to have girl nights!

After I got off the bus from work, I walked through the market to get to where they were and snapped a couple pictures of what I get to see, living here. This market is famous in korea and is only 2 stops from my school, and about 5 from my house, so I come here often!

Jess and I spent some time catching up at Smoothie King before we met Sowon at PIFF Square (Where the annual film festival is held in Pusan.)

Sowon and I at dinner. She took us to the most famous traditional korean restaurant in Nampodong. As you probably have already seen from all my blogs about eating out, they serve TONS of side dishes. There was one that looked like baked fish, so I tried it. It was delicious. I later found out it was an eel! Hey, there's a first time for everything!

Soyon and Jess

Jess is always the last one to finish eating when we all go out because she takes 5 minutes to create 1 bite of food and only eats vegetables and lettuce! We love you Jess!

Hey, I know that song!

I thought I'd share with you, some of the most commonly played korean pop songs right now. Literally, every store you go into, you're bound to hear at least one of these playing - most of which are extremely catchy!

You did What?!

We are working on an art project with our 6th graders today about what they did on vacation. One of my favorite students, who I've given the English name of Seth to, was drawing and talking and said, "On vacation, I played baseball with my ganja!"

Happy 300th Blog Post!

Who would have guessed I'd turn out to be such a blogging-fiend! This post officially celebrates my 300th blog! I hope that you have enjoyed reading it just as much as I have enjoyed writing it! May there be many many more to come! :)

The Ice Cream Outing!

As you may already know, I teach 9 different level after school classes! It's a pain to plan for all of them, so when the kids start a conversation they're interested and participating in, I usually jump on board and push my lesson plans to next weeks class!

This afternoon, we got onto the subject of ice cream! (Which happens to be one of my favorites!) They were going crazy about ice cream and how much they loved it, so I asked, "Do you want ice cream right now?" The room erupted with excitement and when I said, "Okay, let's go get some," they went even crazier, jumping up and down and giving each other high fives! They couldn't believe a teacher was going to take them to the store and buy them ice cream!

We made a deal before we set out on our journey to the market - Yungoroh mahn (English only!) They obliged and we had nice conversations about the weather, the new town art, the cars on the road... etc!

Here they are at the market, showing me what they like! They asked if they could buy the expensive ice cream, and when I said "sure" they started going crazy!!! (By the way, the expensive ice cream was the equivalent of $1.00)

And outside the store, showing me what they picked! (From left to right: Nathan, Skylar, Stephanie, Kristy, and Lauren... all 5th graders.)

Working at a very low income school can have it's difficulties, but seeing the smiles on the kiddos faces when you buy them something as little as an ice cream is so awesome!
