On Monday night, I came home and saw a note from Kevin that someone from his school had taken him to see a new apartment! I was thrilled, because this meant that we were going to be moving soon. Little did I know, the next 24 hours would bring some interesting changes.
Kevin arrived home that night at 9:00pm with a "would you rather question" for me. He asked me, "Would you rather live on the 10th floor with a view of the city and move in on Wednesday, OR live on the 10th floor in a nicer apartment with a view of the ocean but have to live in a love motel for 20 days?" I asked, "Well, what EXACTLY is a Love Motel?" His answer was simply, "The one we would live in has red lights in the hallway, circle beds, and naked women painted on the ceiling." That was enough info for me to realize it was somewhat of a pay-by-the-hour type of place. I knew it would be scray, but the I said, "Let's do it! Let's live in the love motel. It'll be an adventure, and in the end, we'll have an amazing apartment with an incredible view!"
The next day at work, I was telling Stella and my Vice Principal about the Love Motel and said, "It's very scary and has red lights and naked women on the ceiling." My Vice-Principal has taken me under his wing and treats me as a daughter, and he was NOT happy about the situation and the thought of me living in a brothel-style love motel! About 1 hour later, he came rushing into my office and sat me down and said, "I have an apartment for you. You can stay there until your new place is ready." I was exstatic! Within the hour, we were driving there to see it. When I saw it, I said, "We'll take it." Little did we know that meant we had to move there THAT night, and be out of our current apartment by 6pm. (in 2 hours) You know you don't own much, when you can pack and move everything you own in under 2 hours!
The new temporary apartment is on the 5th floor of a French-style building on top of a hill (with no elevator!!). My legs will be like steel by April! My commute to work is 35 minutes.... 10 minutes of walking to the bus station and then a 25 minute ride on the bus!
Here are some pictures: (The pics don't do it justice. It's actually very nice.)
Our bedroom / living room! We have a TV now and a vacume! We watched Korean news in English this morning before school. It's great to be able to hear about what's going on in Asia.
This is our bathroom. This picture makes it look disgusting, but it really isn't, and we are VERY excited to have more room to get ready in the morning! (The laundry room is on the other side of the sliding glass doors.)
This is our bed. (We DID NOT pick out the bedding, or the WALLPAPER!) Yikes!
This is our Kitchen! We have a brand new refridgerator, lots of cabinets, and a new microwave!
This is the view from one of our windows at night. It's blury because I was trying to take it at night while Kevin was sleeping, and couldn't find the right camera setting for night pictures. Oh well, you get the gist of our view!
Congratulations. Things are looking up. Looking at the bed, I'm glad you and Kevin are not overweight! I had to laugh when you said "lots of cabinets." Have you forgotten Litchfield Park and Buckeye? Also, how are you going to reach the microwave? I assume you'll put it on the table or the floor. Another fun adventure, and I love the view!
ReplyDeleteYay God is so good. I am so glad to hear that you will not be staying at the Love motel and that your vice principal is taking such good care of my sister! Love you and so proud of your adventurism!!

Remember our apartment on Oceanfront? It's like that! And just when we thought we could not possibly move somewhere smaller, we did! You should have seen our place in Oxford. Your adventure is bringing back so many memories for me! You have a fantastic attitude and I can see that you are making the best of everything. Well, don't get too attached this place! (BTW- I am impressed that you agreed to live in the Love Motel for *20* days. . . )
ReplyDeleteRach,
ReplyDeleteI think this place is about the size of your Balboa place (minus your bedroom). Crazy huh?! I always thought you guys were crazy to live there, but now I have a new appreciation for small spaces! I even tld Kevin... "I think I'd be fine if we always lived in something this size." I guess I just realize I don't need more space than that! Jill
